This past Friday, just days before fashion’s biggest night, Charlotte offered its own masterclass in style with Superfine at the Gantt—a visually stunning celebration of Black fashion, curated brilliance, and sartorial storytelling.
As the world turns its eyes tonight to the 2025 Met Gala and its theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, Queen City tastemakers were already ahead of the curve. From the mind of Professor P, Superfine at the Gantt proved that Black style doesn’t follow trends—it creates them. Friday night’s experience was more than a party; it was a movement stitched together with cultural reverence and unmistakable flair.
The evening unfolded with intentional elegance. Guests posed for Tailor Made Portraits by Sancho Smalls, a fitting tribute to the power of being seen and styled. Inside, the Dissecting Dandyism exhibit—curated by Professor P, Carla Aaron-Lopez, Davita Galloway, and Shekinah Williams—delved into the roots of style as protest, power, and pride. With sponsorship from Nouveau Chapeau Vintage and Archive CLT, every detail reflected a deep reverence for history and a push toward the future.
The rotating runway panel turned heads and sparked conversation, as designers showcased looks that transcended the seams. From sharp tailoring to avant-garde silhouettes, the fashion show reminded us that craftsmanship and culture walk hand-in-hand. Between the red carpet arrival, rooftop revelry, and bites from The Thicc Co. and Big Worm Empanadas, every layer of the night felt, in a word—superfine.
DJ Dammit Wesley kept the energy high as the crowd celebrated Black excellence draped in daring prints, rich textures, and personal storytelling. Some wore bold metallics, others leaned into dapper suits, elaborate headpieces, or archival pieces styled with a modern edge—but all brought their A-game to the fashion forefront.
There may be a spotlight on the Met Gala tonight, but Charlotte already claimed its crown. Superfine wasn’t just an event. It was a declaration: Black fashion has always led. And on this night, at the Gantt, it reigned supreme. Take a look at some of our favorite looks from the evening below.
